Canada Needs the Gospel

Weekly church attendance and religious affiliation in Canada has decreased at an alarming rate. Grace Fellowship Canada (GFC) is a missional network of churches committed to bringing the good news of Jesus to an increasingly post-Christian culture. We believe that through effective church planting strategies, leadership development and effective partnerships among our churches we can reach more people and make more disciples, changing the heart of Canada from the inside out.

Our Story

Grace Fellowship Canada emerged as a church planting ministry under the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches (now the Charis Fellowship), dedicated to establishing churches across Canada. Prior to this, despite attempts dating back to 1916, no such churches existed in the country. In the early 1990s, interest grew in planting the first Grace Brethren church in Canada. A team was assembled under the leadership of Nathan Bryant, Philip Bryant, and Bartley Sawatsky, and after a kickoff at the Grace Brethren Fellowship National Conference in Toronto, they were sent to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in Ontario on May 31, 1997. Grace Community Church (now Renew Church) was launched in Mississauga, Ontario, in September of the following year, and the church planting mission became what we know today as Grace Fellowship Canada.

From a core group of 13 individuals who formed the original Grace Community Church in 1998, we have established communities of believers in some of Canada’s most diverse areas. Today, Grace Fellowship Canada’s mission continues to be led by Philip and Beth Bryant, as they work to foster a uniquely Canadian church movement.
