Brunswick is in the Southern Frederick County Maryland, which is part of the greater Washington DC metroplex. There are about 25,000 people living in the target area for this church plant and around 250,000 living in the county. Brunswick’s population has grown by over 25% in the last 10 years with over 1,500 homes being built in Brunswick Crossing to accommodate commuters to Washington DC. Over 58% of Frederick County has no religious affiliation at all, and only 9% attend an evangelical church. There is a lack of vibrant Bible-believing churches in the area. As one Brunswick resident puts it, “We need churches here!”

Scott and Jennifer Avey

Scott & Jennifer Avey

Scott Avey had been a worship leader for over a decade before God pushed him off the ledge of his own comfort towards becoming a church planter. After hearing God’s repeated call to plant in the Washington DC area, Scott and Jennifer began preparations and prayer to enter full-time ministry as church planters. Countless conversations, coaching sessions and professional assessments have led to Scott and Jennifer’s transition out of Grace Community Church (Frederick, Maryland) to join five other families in their new gospel community in Brunswick. The couples’ dreams for ministry are now blossoming with the goal to be a part of planting five daughter or granddaughter churches in the next 30 years.

About the project

In January of 2017, Scott and Jennifer Avey were sent along with five other families to begin a gospel community in Brunswick, Maryland. Their first night of Bible study had a turnout of 40 people! Scott currently continues his transition out of his mother church, Grace Community Church, and will begin full-time work with the church plant in September 2017. So far, prelaunch social engagements have been successful seeing as many as 70 people participate. In the meantime, the launch team continues to add members as they grow deeper in community and roll out fundraising initiatives. Grace Fellowship Church is seeking additional families to join the launch as well as key team members in the areas of worship and small group facilitators. The long-term goal is to plant another church in northern Frederick County within 5 years. Pray with us that the Lord will bring the leaders necessary to make this successful.
